The Observatorio del Teide is located at an altitude of 2,390 meters in Izaña and is part of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias. During guided tours, visitors gain insight into the telescopes and the solar research carried out there.
The guided tour lasts about 90 minutes and takes you through parts of the scientific area. The visit includes explanations of astronomical research and observation of the sun with special telescopes.
Izaña is particularly known for its research into the sun. Here you will find, among other things, GREGOR with a 1.5 meter opening, THEMIS and the Vacuum Tower Telescope as well as instruments for night astronomy.
