Jardín Botánico is a botanical garden in Puerto de la Cruz with monumental ficus trees, rare trees and extensive collections of tropical and subtropical plants on 20,000 m².

Ficus, palm trees & bromeliads

The collections of palm trees, bromeliads, arum and mulberry plants are particularly important. The most striking plants include mighty ficuses with well-developed aerial roots as well as trees that are botanically remarkable because of their age, size, rarity or origin.

Acclimatization since 1788

In 1788, King Charles III initiated the founding of a garden in which plants from tropical regions were to be acclimated to the climate on Spanish territory. The first plantings began in 1792. Today the garden belongs to the Canary Islands Agricultural Research Institute ICIA and continues to be used for plant collection, research and conservation.
