The Cueva del Viento visitor center is the starting point for guided tours through one of the largest lava tube systems in the world. More than 18 kilometers of the branched cave system have already been mapped.
The Cueva del Viento was created around 27,000 years ago by lava flows from the Pico Viejo volcano. A geological peculiarity are the galleries with lava falls, terraces and other volcanic formations on three levels.
The approximately two and a half hour tour begins in the visitor center and leads over a lava field and an old Camino Real to the cave. The section visited has no artificial lighting, so participants are given helmets with lamps and explore it in groups of a maximum of 15 people.
